Torrent Pharmaceuticals, a manufacturer of wide range of pharmaceutical products, has commenced commercial operations at its new plant in Dahej.

The company said, "The new plant, situated in Dahej SEZ is spread across 70 acres site with a built up area of around 97000 square meters. Phase I will have installed capacity of about 7,500 million tablets or capsules and 25 MT API per annum, the company said."

"The plant will cater mainly to the more regulated international markets such as US, Brazil, Germany etc. and is already approved by regulatory authorities of these countries," it added.

This is the company's 5th formulation plant and the second API plant. The facility is being set up in a two phases and the total investment made in the first phase of the plant is over Rs 6.50 billion. 

Construction of the phase II will commence soon and once commissioned the total capacity will increase to about 14,000 million tablets or capsules and 80 MT API per year, the company said.

Shares of the company declined Rs 14.2, or 0.91%, to settle at Rs 1,549.85. The total volume of shares traded was 43,983 at the BSE (Thursday).
