Sensex ends above 30,000-mark; Nifty settles at 9,352

Indian markets ended higher on Wednesday. Both Sensex and Nifty traded at a new life time high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 190.11 or 0.63% at 30,133.35 with 18 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 45.25 or 0.49% at 9,351.85 with 26 components registering rise.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Mahindra & Mahindra (3.63%), ITC (3.36%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.36%), Hindustan Unilever (1.78%), ICICI Bank (1.61%), and Tata Motors (1.17%).

On the other hand, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (2.31%), Infosys (1.61%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.31%), Reliance Industries (1.13%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.07%), and Wipro (0.80%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 902 advances against 1,865 declines.

Spicejet topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 731.96 million. It was followed by HealthCare Global Enterprises (Rs. 683.91 million), Adani Enterprises (Rs. 605.55 million) and Wipro (Rs. 591.93 million).

The volume chart was led by Suzlon Energy with trades of over 14.33 million shares. It was followed by Spicejet (6.91 million), Adani Enterprises (5.06 million) and IDFC Bank (4.59 million).
