Sensex ends 64 points higher; Nifty settles at 9,521-level

Indian equities ended higher on Friday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 64.09 or 0.21% at 30,921.61 with 10 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 16.80 or 0.18% at 9,520.90 with 23 components registering rise.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were ITC (4.00%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.97%), Tata Steel (1.80%), Cipla (1.76%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.59%), and Tata Consultancy Services (1.27%).

On the other hand, Hero Motocorp (1.25%), ICICI Bank (1.23%), Tata Power Company (1.17%), Bajaj Auto (1.00%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.96%), and Reliance Industries (0.91%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,279 advances against 1,167 declines.

Kesoram Industries topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,198.87 million. It was followed by R*Shares Liquid BeES (Rs. 883.52 million), Spicejet (Rs. 760.90 million) and Tata Steel (Rs. 498.68 million).

The volume chart was led by Suzlon Energy with trades of over 8.49 million shares. It was followed by Kesoram Industries (8.13 million), Spicejet (5.76 million) and Reliance Communications (3.17 million).
