Sensex ends 297 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,584-level

Indian markets ended higher on Tuesday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 297.38 or 0.85% at 35,162.48 with 20 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 72.25 or 0.69% at 10,584.75 with 36 components registering rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Mahindra & Mahindra (3.97%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (3.54%), Tata Power Company (3.51%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (3.44%), State Bank Of India (2.60%), and ICICI Bank (2.51%).

On the other hand, HDFC Bank (0.77%), Bajaj Auto (0.67%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.45%), Infosys (0.39%), and NTPC (0.33%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was positive with 1,573 advances against 782 declines.

H E G topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 837.79 million. It was followed by Indiabulls Housing Finance (Rs. 794.40 million), Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (Rs. 714.70 million) and Reliance Industries (Rs. 540.27 million).

The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 15.54 million shares. It was followed by Reliance Communications (6.96 million), Federal Bank (5.62 million) and Adani Power (3.81 million).
