Indian markets ended lower on Friday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 37,869.23 or 0.41% at 155.14. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 41.20 or 0.36% at 11,429.50.
Major losers in the 30-share index were State Bank Of India (3.79%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (3.00%), Tata Motors (2.82%), Larsen & Toubro (1.67%), Tata Steel (1.63%), and Coal India (1.48%).
On the other hand, Hero Motocorp (1.41%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.26%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.98%), ITC (0.94%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (0.71%), and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (0.41%).
Market breadth was negative with 964 advances against 1,481 declines.
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,967.51 million. It was followed by Housing Development Finance Corporation (Rs. 1,193.62 million), Jet Airways (India) (Rs. 616.31 million) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (Rs. 501.60 million).
The volume chart was led by G M R Infrastructure with trades of over 21.49 million shares. It was followed by Reliance Communications (18.22 million), Jaiprakash Associates (11.09 million) and State Bank Of India (6.46 million).
