Indian equities settled higher for the fourth day on Tuesday led by gains in oil & gas, IT and healthcare stocks. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 134.59 points or 0.46% at 29,593.73 with 19 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 39.50 points or 0.44% at 8,996.25 with 30 components posting rise.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Reliance Industries (4.39%), Tata Consultancy Services (3.92%), Bajaj Auto (2.18%), Cipla (2.14%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.01%), and Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.94%).
On the other hand, Coal India (3.89%), Mahindra & Mahindra (3.26%), Axis Bank (2.34%), Tata Motors (1.63%), NTPC (0.72%), and I T C (0.57%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 1.18% and 1.39% respectively.
The Oil & Gas index was at 9,920.66, up by 214.17 points or by 2.21%. The IT index was at 12,144.86, up by 173.25 points or by 1.45%. The HC index was at 16,365.43, up by 214.72 points or by 1.33%. On the other hand, the Realty index was at 1,794.95, down by 21.59 points or by 1.19%.
