Indian equities extended gains in the post noon deals on the back of buying interest seen in index heavyweights on Thursday. All sectoral indices were trading in green with power, IT, metals and oil & gas leading the space.
At 3 p.m., the Sensex was trading up 744.48 points or 1.26% at 58,413.30 with 10 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 223.50 points or 1.30% at 17,390 with 22 components registering rise.
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were HDFC (4.02%), Power Grid Corporation of India (3.09%), Tata Steel (2.75%), Sun Pharma (2.66%), Tech Mahindra (2.64%) and HCL Technologies (2.46%).
On the other hand, ICICI Bank (0.77%), Axis Bank (0.57%) and Larsen & Toubro (0.05%) were the major losers in the Sensex. Market breadth was positive with 2,155 advances against 1,070 declines.
