Indian equities continued to trade on a sluggish note amid volatility on Wednesday. Realty, banks, oil & gas, financials and energy stocks witnessed profit booking while auto, power and pharma stocks gained the most.
At 14.22., the Sensex was trading down 134.56 points or 0.22% at 60,187.81 with 9 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 43.15 points or 0.24% at 17,956.05 with 20 components falling.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Maruti Suzuki (3.01%), Asian Paints (2.38%), ITC (2.23%), Power Grid Corporation Of India (2%), NTPC (1.71%), IndusInd Bank (1.50%) and Tech Mahindra (1.17%).
On the other hand, Reliance Industries (1.51%), Axis Bank (1.51%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.20%), Bharti Airtel (1.12%), Titan (1.05%), HDFC (0.94%), HDFC Bank (0.85%) and Dr Reddy's Laboratories (0.70%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex. Market breadth was mixed with 1,598 advances against 1,675 declines.
