Sensex, Nifty end higher for third day led by metal stocks

  Indian markets extended gains for the third day on Thursday led by metal and IT stocks whereas banking, financials and energy stocks declined. BSE Midcap and Smallcap index gained 0.60% and 0.73% respectively.

At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 84.45 points or 0.17% at 49,746.21 with 16 components posting rise.  Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 54.75 points or 0.37% at 14,873.80 with 27 components posting rise.

Tata Consultancy Services  contributed rise of 36.53 points in the Sensex.  It was followed by Tata Motors  (32.27 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation  (31.81 points), Tata Steel  (30.74 points) and Larsen & Toubro  (27.04 points).

However, HDFC Bank  contributed fall of 37.42 points in the Sensex.  It was followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation  (23.06 points), ITC  (16.24 points), State Bank Of India (14.99 points) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries  (12.19 points).

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Steel (4.90%), UltraTech Cement (4.24%), Titan (3.95%), Tech Mahindra  (2.52%), Nestle (1.66%), Tata Consultancy Services  (1.40%), Bajaj Finserv  (1.30%),  and Larsen & Toubro  (1.08%).

On the other hand, Indusind Bank  (1.07%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation  (1.05%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries  (1.05%), Bajaj Auto  (1.01%), HDFC Bank  (0.95%), and Axis Bank  (0.94%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex pack.

Market breadth was positive with 1,857 advances against 1,061 declines.
