Sensex ends volatile session flat; Nifty below 14,700 levels

  Indian markets ended marginally higher on Tuesday snapping earlier losses. Metals, pharma and financial stocks traded in green while banking stocks witnessed selling pressure.

At the close, the 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex ended flat with a rise of 42.07 points or 0.09% at 49,201.39, 19 components posting rise.  Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 45.70 points or 0.31% at 14,683.50 with 29 components registering rise.

Housing Development Finance Corporation  contributed rise of 51.8 points in the Sensex.  It was followed by Hindustan Unilever  (22.76 points), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries  (21.66 points), Tata Consultancy Services  (19.58 points) and Tata Motors (13.84 points).

However, ICICI Bank  contributed fall of 35.75 points in the Sensex.  It was followed by HDFC Bank  (21.57 points), Reliance Industries  (19.36 points), State Bank Of India (16.35 points) and Larsen & Toubro  (4.75 points).

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Asian Paints  (4.07%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries  (1.88%), Hindustan Unilever  (1.44%), Dr Reddy's (1.35%), Housing Development Finance Corporation  (1.10%), Mahindra & Mahindra  (0.88%),  and TCS  (0.76%).

On the other hand, Power Grid Corporation Of India  (2.29%), Axis Bank  (1.12%), IndusInd Bank (1.09%), UltraTech Cement (0.93%), ICICI Bank  (0.91%), State Bank Of India (0.88%), and Tech Mahindra  (0.58%) were the major losers in the Sensex pack.

Market breadth was negative with 1,664 advances against 1,217 declines.
