Sensex crashes 746.22 points to close below 49K

Indian equities plunged further to close on a depressing note with Sensex crashing 700 points and Nifty below 14,400 level for the second day on Friday. The market sentiment was dragged by weak global markets and selling seen in metal and banking indices.
At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 746.22 points or 1.50% at 48,878.54 with 24 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 218.45 points or 1.50% at 14,371.90 with 42 components registering drop.
Reliance Industries contributed fall of 96.24 points in the Sensex. It was followed by HDFC Bank (79.15 points), ITC (73.71 points), State Bank Of India (70.34 points) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (47.7 points).
However, Bajaj Auto contributed rise of 81.76 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Hindustan Unilever (27.69 points), Tata Consultancy Services (22.41 points), Hero Motocorp (18.13 points) and Infosys (3.02 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Bajaj Auto (10.45%), Hindustan Unilever (1.76%), UltraTech Cement (0.88%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.87%), Bajaj Finserv (0.24%), and Infosys (0.09%).
On the other hand, Axis Bank (4.63%), Asian Paints (4.22%), State Bank Of India (3.80%), Indusind Bank (3.55%), ICICI Bank (3.39%), Bajaj Finance (2.92%) and HDFC (2.76%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 979 advances against 2,005 declines.
