At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 393.83 points or 0.80% at 49,792.12 with 20 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 123.55 points or 0.85% at 14,644.70 with 30 components posting rise.
Reliance Industries contributed rise of 81.59 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys (58.43 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (49.39 points), ICICI Bank (32.73 points) and Tata Consultancy Services (30.78 points).
However, HDFC Bank contributed fall of 32.53 points in the Sensex. It was followed by ITC (31.76 points), NTPC (12.48 points), Hindustan Unilever (5.9 points) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (3.52 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Maruti Suzuki India (2.75%), Tech Mahindra (2.67%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.98%), Asian Paints (1.98%), Reliance Industries (1.91%) and Infosys (1.70%).
On the other hand, Power Grid Corporation Of India (1.75%), NTPC (1.35%), HDFC Bank (0.83%), ITC (0.59%), Nestle (0.44%), Hindustan Unilever (0.37%), and Sun Pharmaceuticals (0.30%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,582 advances against 1,429 declines.
