Indian markets wrapped today's session on a disappointing note for the second day tracking weak global cues. Moreover selling pressure was seen in pivotal stocks across board.
BSE Midcap and Smallcap index dropped 2% each today. All sectoral indices closed in red except energy stocks.
At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 470.40 points or 0.96% at 48,564.27 with 27 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 152.40 points or 1.06% at 14,281.30 with 49 components posting drop.
Oil & Natural Gas Corporation contributed fall of 9.98 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Housing Development Finance Corporation (9.55 points), Tata Motors (9.22 points), Infosys (8.46 points) and ICICI Bank (7.65 points).
However, Reliance Industries contributed rise of 10.01 points in the Sensex. It was followed by HDFC Bank (4.47 points), ITC (4.01 points), Bajaj Auto (0.24 points) and Hero Motocorp (0.75 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Reliance Industries (2.37%), Titan (1.86%), HDFC Bank (1.15%), and ITC (0.76%).
On the other hand, Tata Steel (5.58%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (4.59%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (3.74%), Indusind Bank (3.71%), Power Grid (3.50%) and Bajaj Finance (3.44%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 938 advances against 2,090 declines.
