Sensex ends 46 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,883

Indian markets ended higher on Monday. Both Sensex and Nifty traded above 2-month high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 46.70 or 0.13% at 36,241.00 with 19 components registering rise. while the broad based NSE Nifty closed flat with a gain of 7.00 points or 0.06%, at 10,883.75.34 components registering rise.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Hindustan Unilever (4.12%), NTPC (3.68%), Bharti Airtel (2.98%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (2.61%), and Power Grid Corporation Of India (2.42%).

On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (7.52%), Mahindra & Mahindra (3.79%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.50%), ITC (1.14%), Hero Motocorp (1.02%), and Reliance Industries (1.02%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,208 advances against 1,137 declines.

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 2,189.53 million. It was followed by Indiabulls Housing Finance (Rs. 765.36 million), Tata Steel (Rs. 474.43 million) and Maruti Suzuki India (Rs. 455.53 million).

The volume chart was led by Moh with trades of over 6.45 million shares. It was followed by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (4.81 million), Ashok Leyland (3.10 million) and REC (1.91 million).
