Sensex ends 347 points higher; Nifty settles above 11,000

Indian equities ended higher on Tuesday snapping earlier losses. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 347.04 or 0.96% at 36,652.06 with 21 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 100.05 or 0.91% at 11,067.45 with 34 components registering rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Axis Bank (2.96%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.95%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (2.88%), Hindustan Unilever (2.72%), Maruti Suzuki India (2.66%), and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.58%).

On the other hand, Power Grid Corporation Of India (3.07%), Coal India (1.94%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.65%), Tata Steel (1.10%), Wipro (0.93%), and Tata Consultancy Services (0.71%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 974 advances against 1,457 declines.

Tata Steel topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 525.67 million. It was followed by Bank Of Baroda (Rs. 305.29 million), Biocon (Rs. 299.33 million) and L I C Housing Finance (Rs. 204.86 million).

The volume chart was led by Birla Power Solutions with trades of over 12.09 million shares. It was followed by Jaiprakash Associates (9.13 million), Reliance Communications (7.74 million) and Sam Leaseco (4.22 million).
