Indian markets ended lower on Monday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 217.86 or 0.60% at 36,323.77 with 23 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 82.05 or 0.74% at 10,936.85 with 43 components registering drop.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Tata Steel (6.96%), Tata Motors (4.77%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (4.69%), Bharti Airtel (3.31%), and ICICI Bank (3.26%).
On the other hand, NTPC (1.96%), Infosys (1.83%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.95%), Wipro (0.86%), Hindustan Unilever (0.73%), and ITC (0.41%) were the biggest gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 537 advances against 1,834 declines.
Dr Reddy'S Laboratories topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 676.38 million. It was followed by Reliance Industries (Rs. 480.82 million), IDBI Bank (Rs. 402.13 million) and Just Dial (Rs. 275.73 million).
The volume chart was led by Birla Power Solutions with trades of over 12.09 million shares. It was followed by Reliance Communications (8.33 million), IDBI Bank (7.12 million) and Sam Leaseco (4.22 million).
