Indian equities ended higher on Wednesday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 266.80 or 0.75% at 35,645.40 with 16 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 70.00 or 0.65% at 10,769.90 with 26 components registering rise.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Bajaj Auto (3.95%), Maruti Suzuki India (2.69%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.09%), Hindustan Unilever (2.03%), Reliance Industries (1.90%), and Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.58%).
On the other hand, Cipla (1.73%), NTPC (1.64%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.43%), Bharti Airtel (1.01%), Tata Motors (0.93%), and Power Grid Corporation Of India (0.81%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,150 advances against 1,207 declines.
I T C topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 672.56 million. It was followed by NTPC (Rs. 377.71 million), Reliance Industries (Rs. 333.54 million) and Kiri Industries (Rs. 253.06 million).
The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 6.68 million shares. It was followed by I T C (2.54 million), IDBI Bank (2.53 million) and NTPC (2.48 million).
