Sensex ends 201 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,231-level

Indian equities ended higher on Monday. Both Sensex and Nifty traded at a new life time high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 200.95 or 0.62% at 32,633.64 with 23 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 63.40 or 0.62% at 10,230.85 with 33 components posting rise.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (4.96%), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.99%), Tata Motors (2.85%), Hindustan Unilever (2.84%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.52%), and Cipla (2.42%).

On the other hand, Axis Bank (1.65%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (0.56%), Wipro (0.34%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.31%), Asian Paints (0.24%), and Reliance Industries (0.17%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,200 advances against 1,297 declines.

Godrej Agrovet topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 2,189.61 million. It was followed by Reliance Industries (Rs. 551.74 million), City Union Bank (Rs. 508.53 million) and Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (Rs. 456.37 million).

The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 8.10 million shares. It was followed by Jaiprakash Power Ventures (4.03 million), Godrej Agrovet (3.68 million) and City Union Bank (3.18 million).
