Sensex ends 250 points higher; Nifty closes at record high of 10,167

Indian markets ended higher on Friday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 250.47 or 0.78% at 32,432.69 with 18 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 71.05 or 0.70% at 10,167.45 with 34 components registering rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (7.89%), Tata Steel (2.86%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (2.04%), HDFC Bank (1.89%), Coal India (1.59%), and ICIC I Bank (1.44%).

On the other hand, Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.09%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.05%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.93%), Wipro (0.50%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.46%), and ITC (0.43%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,193 advances against 1,315 declines.

Bharti Airtel topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,530.00 million. It was followed by Cyient (Rs. 1,503.95 million), Infosys (Rs. 1,144.27 million) and Axis Bank (Rs. 695.73 million).

The volume chart was led by Himachal Futuristic Communications with trades of over 5.79 million shares. It was followed by Reliance Communications (4.52 million), JSW Energy (3.92 million) and Alok Industries (3.64 million).
