Indian markets ended lower on Friday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 270.78 or 0.85% at 31,524.68 with 20 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 66.75 or 0.67% at 9,837.40 with 35 components registering drop.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Infosys (9.60%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (3.81%), NTPC (2.01%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.60%), Coal India (1.52%), and Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.35%).
On the other hand, Hindustan Unilever (2.23%), GAIL (India) (1.83%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.32%), Bharti Airtel (1.21%), ITC (0.84%), and Reliance Industries (0.60%) were the biggest gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 940 advances against 1,444 declines.
Infosys topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 7,530.12 million. It was followed by Centrum Capital (Rs. 1,264.48 million), Housing Development Finance Corporation (Rs. 867.81 million) and Spicejet (Rs. 617.45 million).
The volume chart was led by Centrum Capital with trades of over 17.45 million shares. It was followed by Lanco Infratech (11.39 million), Infosys (8.16 million) and Jaiprakash Associates (7.60 million).
