Indian rupee has appreciated on Wednesday against US dollar. Indian currency rose 4 paise or 0.07 percent against dollar to settle at 61.28. Rupee has witnessed a high of 61.16 and a low of 61.30. Its 52-week range was 58.34-63.91. The Dollar index, a measure of the value of the US dollar relative to a basket of foreign currencies, rose 0.18 percent to settle at 85.45.
Indian markets settled on a cheerful note as markets are in festive mood with Sensex and Nifty maintaining upward momentum on Wednesday tracking strong global cues. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 211.58 points or 0.80% at 26,787.23 with 20 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 68.15 points or 0.86% at 7,995.90 with 36 components posting rise.
