The index of mineral production of mining and quarrying sector for the month of May 2014 at 125.6, was 2.7% higher as compared to May 2013.
The total value of mineral production (excluding atomic & minor minerals) in the country during May 2014 was Rs 189.52 billion. The contribution of: coal was the highest at Rs 62.32 billion (33%). Next in the order of importance were: petroleum (crude) Rs 57.7 billion, iron ore Rs 31.11 billion, natural gas (utilized) Rs 18.36 billion, lignite Rs 5.29 billion and limestone Rs 4.3 billion. These six minerals together contributed about 94% of the total value of mineral production in May 2014.
Production level of important minerals in May 2014 were: coal 456 lakh tonnes, lignite 47 lakh tons, natural gas (utilized) 2869 million cu. m., petroleum (crude) 32 lakh tons, bauxite 2633 thousand tons, chromite 265 thousand tons, copper conc. 11 thousand tons, gold 110 kg., iron ore 139 lakh tons, lead conc. 13 thousand tons, manganese ore 230 thousand tons, zinc conc. 89 thousnd tons, apatite & phosphorite 128 thousand tons, dolomite 635 thousand tons, limestone 257 lakh tons, magnesite 19 thousand tons and diamond 4791 carat.
