US stock markets settled sharply lower on Tuesday as banks tumble and industrial companies such as transportation stocks take large losses. Small-company stocks are falling more than the rest of the market.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 237.85 points or 1.14 percent to settle at 20,668.01. NASDAQ 100 index lost 80.78 points or 1.49 percent to close at 5,332.53. The broader S&P 500 index fell 29.45 points or 1.24 percent to end at 2,344.02.
