Indian equities continued to drop for the third day on Friday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 509.54 or 1.51% at 33,176.00 with 27 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty declined by 165 or 1.59% at 10,195.15 with 41 components posting fall.
Coal India (5.69%), Tata Motors (3.67%), Asian Paints (3.09%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (2.89%), Hero Motocorp (2.67%), and NTPC (2.65%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
On the other hand, major gainers in the 30-share index were Mahindra & Mahindra (0.88%), Wipro (0.82%), and Hindustan Unilever (0.51%).
Market breadth was negative with 842 advances against 1,581 declines.
G H C L topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 835.97 million. It was followed by Indian Oil Corporation (Rs. 684.59 million), Jaiprakash Associates (Rs. 639.55 million) and Reliance Industries (Rs. 553.12 million).
The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 30.60 million shares. It was followed by Birla Power Solutions (12.09 million), Suzlon Energy (6.98 million) and Sam Leaseco (4.22 million).
