Sensex jumps over 200 points; Nifty above 11,400

Indian markets continued to rise for the second day on Friday. At 9.49 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 218.20 points or 0.58% at 37,936.16 with 18 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 68.35 points or 0.60% at 11,438.25 with 29 components gaining.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Power Grid Corporation Of India (3.76%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (3.42%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (2.82%), Tata Power Company (2.24%), NTPC (1.89%), and State Bank Of India (1.67%).

On the other hand, Bharti Airtel (3.68%), Hero Motocorp (2.96%), Tata Consultancy Services (2.29%), Axis Bank (2.26%), and ICICI Bank (1.91%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 722 advances against 850 declines.

I T C topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 435.17 million. It was followed by Maruti Suzuki India (Rs. 126.62 million), Tata Consultancy Services (Rs. 123.95 million) and Yes Bank (Rs. 108.77 million).

The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 1.69 million shares. It was followed by I T C (1.42 million), Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers (0.82 million) and Lloyds Steels Industries (0.78 million).
