Sensex gains over 100 points; Nifty near 10,900-mark

Indian markets continued to rise for the second day on Wednesday. Both Sensex and Nifty were trading above 4-month high. At 11.24 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 127.84 points or 0.36% at 35,820.36 with 18 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 35.00 points or 0.32% at 10,877.85 with 30 components gaining.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (4.01%), Cipla (3.22%), Axis Bank (2.42%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.00%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.98%), and State Bank Of India (1.66%).

On the other hand, Tata Steel (1.25%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.20%), Hindustan Unilever (1.12%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.64%), Bharti Airtel (0.54%), and Kotak Mahindra Bank (0.33%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,179 advances against 831 declines.

Eicher Motors topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 451.42 million. It was followed by Thomas Cook (India) (Rs. 445.53 million), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (Rs. 325.15 million) and Lupin (Rs. 235.30 million).

The volume chart was led by IDBI Bank with trades of over 2.24 million shares. It was followed by Thomas Cook (India) (1.58 million), Unitech (1.47 million) and Ruchi Soya Industries (1.45 million).
