Indian equities continued to decline for the fifth day on Tuesday. Both Sensex and Nifty were trading below 2-month low. At 9.28 a.m, the Sensex was trading down 101.44 points or 0.28% at 36,203.58 with 17 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 35.75 points or 0.33% at 10,931.65 with 33 components falling.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (3.02%), Power Grid Corporation Of India (2.29%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.74%), ICICI Bank (1.60%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.57%), and Tata Steel (1.21%).
On the other hand, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.61%), Coal India (1.05%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.04%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.91%), Asian Paints (0.76%), and Cipla (0.40%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 429 advances against 849 declines.
Housing Development Finance Corporation topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 537.37 million. It was followed by R*Shares Liquid BeES (Rs. 165.26 million), Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (Rs. 128.63 million) and Yes Bank (Rs. 117.07 million).
The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 0.82 million shares. It was followed by Yes Bank (0.51 million), Adani Power (0.44 million) and Jaiprakash Associates (0.37 million).
