Sensex ends 251 points; Nifty settles at 10,741

Indian markets ended higher on Monday. Both Sensex and Nifty traded at a new life time high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 251.12 or 0.73% at 34,843.51 with 11 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 60.30 or 0.56% at 10,741.55 with 19 components posting rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Housing Development Finance Corporation (6.17%), ICICI Bank (3.73%), Tata Steel (1.58%), HDFC Bank (1.47%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.39%) and Power Grid (1.35%).

On the other hand, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.85%), Hero Motocorp (1.57%), Indusind Bank (1.41%), Yes Bank (1.38%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.34%) and Maruti Suzuki India (1.10%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,429 advances against 1,362 declines.

Capital First topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 734.18 million. It was followed by IDFC Bank (Rs. 656.76 million), Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers and Chemicals (Rs. 473.95 million) and I C I C I Bank (Rs. 465.35 million).

The volume chart was led by Uttam Value Steels with trades of over 31.45 million shares. It was followed by IDFC Bank (10.22 million), Hathway Cable and Datacom (8.86 million) and RattanIndia Power (8.37 million).
