Indian equities ended lower on Tuesday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 106.69 or 0.29% at 36,134.31 with 16 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 14.25 or 0.13% at 10,869.50 with 33 components posting drop.
Biggest losers in the 30-share index were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.75%), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.36%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.92%), State Bank Of India (1.64%), Tata Power Company (1.45%), and NTPC (1.41%).
On the other hand, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (2.52%), Infosys (2.18%), Wipro (2.06%), Cipla (1.91%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.37%), and Coal India (1.35%) were the biggest gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,050 advances against 1,242 declines.
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,401.61 million. It was followed by Yes Bank (Rs. 1,181.87 million), Reliance Communications (Rs. 564.75 million) and Tech Mahindra (Rs. 322.81 million).
The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 33.03 million shares. It was followed by Yes Bank (6.69 million), Suzlon Energy (3.36 million) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (3.17 million).
