Sensex ends 100 points higher, Nifty settles above 8,900

Indian equities ended higher on Tuesday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 100.01 or 0.35% at 28,761.59 with 17 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 28.65 or 0.32% at 8,907.85 with 29 components posting rise.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Axis Bank (4.99%), Asian Paints (1.61%), Reliance Industries (1.36%), Hindustan Unilever (1.17%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.13%), and Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.06%).

On the other hand, Bharti Airtel (4.02%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.68%), Tata Power Company (1.00%), ITC (0.94%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.93%), and Maruti Suzuki India (0.48%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,472 advances against 1,198 declines.

Spicejet topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,018.11 million. It was followed by Jindal Steel & Power (Rs. 836.82 million), Axis Bank (Rs. 517.23 million) and Force Motors (Rs. 469.25 million).

The volume chart was led by Spicejet with trades of over 14.69 million shares. It was followed by Jindal Steel & Power (7.65 million), Unitech (5.66 million) and Reliance Communications (5.53 million).
