European stock markets closed higher on Wednesday, but post-earnings drops by Maersk and Tullow Oil and a decline in oil prices kept stronger gains in check.

Europe's leading Blue-chip index, EURO STOXX 50 rose 2.33 points or 0.07 percent to settle at 3,238.04. UK's benchmark index FTSE 100 went up 2.60 points or 0.04 percent to close at 7,188.82. French benchmark index CAC 40 went up 12.13 points or 0.26 percent to end at 4,766.60.

On the other hand, Germany's benchmark index DAX lost 6.06 points or 0.05 percent to end at 11,543.38.
