Asian stock markets closed mixed on Monday as increased geopolitical risks prompted investors to favour safe-haven bets such as government debt while the dollar drew support from Federal Reserve policy tightening expectations.
Japan's benchmark index, Nikkei 225 went up 133.25 points or 0.71 percent to settle at 18,797.88. Singapore's Straits Times went up 4.18 points or 0.13 percent to end at 3,181.45. Taiwan's TAIEX gained 9.17 points or 0.09 percent to end at 9,882.54.
On the other hand, China's benchmark index, Shanghai Composite declined 17.22 points or 0.52 percent to close at 3,269.39. Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 5.12 points or 0.02 percent to end at 24,262.18. South Korea's KOSPI lost 18.41 points or 0.86 percent to end at 2,133.32.
