Asian stock markets settled mixed on Wednesday ahead of the Federal Reserve’s decision on interest rates. The Fed was widely expected to announce later in the day an increase in the key policy rate for the first time in a year.
Japan's benchmark index, Nikkei 225 rose 3.09 points or 0.02 percent to settle at 19,253.61. Hong Kong's Hang Seng went up 9.92 points or 0.04 percent to end at 22,456.62. South Korea's KOSPI went up 0.89 points or 0.04 percent to end at 2,036.87.
On the other hand, China's benchmark index, Shanghai Composite fell 14.51 points or 0.46 percent to close at 3,140.53. Singapore's Straits Times fell 1.17 points or 0.04 percent to end at 2,954.06. Taiwan's TAIEX lost 13.62 points or 0.15 percent to end at 9,368.52.
