Asian stock markets settled higher on Tuesday after Wall Street stabilized and the dollar was steady, as anxiety over Donald Trump's setback on healthcare reform gave way to tentative hopes for the U.S. president's planned stimulus policies.
Japan's benchmark index, Nikkei 225 gained 217.28 points or 1.14 percent to settle at 19,202.87. Hong Kong's Hang Seng went up 152.17 points or 0.63 percent to end at 24,345.87.
Singapore's Straits Times gained 30.94 points or 0.99 percent to end at 3,157.82. South Korea's KOSPI went up 7.65 points or 0.35 percent to end at 2,163.31. Taiwan's TAIEX 0.32 points to end at 9,876.45.
On the other hand, China's benchmark index, Shanghai Composite lost 14.01 points or 0.43 percent to close at 3,252.95.
