European stock markets closed lower on Tuesday. Europe's leading Blue-chip index, EURO STOXX 50 fell 41.98 points or 1.18 percent to settle at 3,549.11.

While UK's benchmark index FTSE 100 declined 51.51 points or 0.75 percent to close at 6,889.13. Germany's benchmark index DAX declined 130 points or 1.14 percent to end at 11,280.36.

Meanwhile, French benchmark index CAC 40 lost 48.07 points or 0.98 percent to end at 4,869.25.
