Sensex ends 71 points lower; Nifty settles at 10,360

Indian markets ended lower on Tuesday. Both Sensex and Nifty traded below 2-month low. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 71.07 or 0.21% at 33,703.59 with 12 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 18.00 or 0.17% at 10,360.40 with 21 components posting drop.

Major losers in the 30-share index were Mahindra & Mahindra (2.48%), Axis Bank (1.42%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.09%), Reliance Industries (0.85%), HDFC Bank (0.83%), and ICICI Bank (0.66%).

On the other hand, Coal India (1.84%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.11%), Bharti Airtel (0.85%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (0.79%), State Bank Of India (0.75%), and Wipro (0.72%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,172 advances against 1,331 declines.

Fortis Healthcare topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 2,349.36 million. It was followed by Punjab National Bank (Rs. 1,306.07 million), Mahindra & Mahindra (Rs. 992.39 million) and State Bank Of India (Rs. 985.56 million).

The volume chart was led by Fortis Healthcare with trades of over 15.31 million shares. It was followed by Punjab National Bank (11.21 million), Electrosteel Steels (7.73 million) and Federal Bank (5.89 million).
