Indian markets ended lower on Wednesday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 382.90 or 1.09% at 34,779.58 with 24 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 131.70 or 1.24% at 10,453.05 with 44 components registering drop.
Biggest losers in the 30-share index were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (5.41%), Maruti Suzuki India (3.79%), Tata Motors (3.40%), Tata Steel (3.39%), State Bank Of India (3.35%), and Hero Motocorp (2.88%).
On the other hand, ITC (1.34%), Coal India (1.28%), Wipro (1.20%), Infosys (1.16%), Hindustan Unilever (1.08%), and Power Grid Corporation Of India (0.56%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 643 advances against 1,692 declines.
Indiabulls Housing Finance topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,645.07 million. It was followed by Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (Rs. 946.32 million), Infosys (Rs. 807.34 million) and Yes Bank (Rs. 805.80 million).
The volume chart was led by Dewan Housing Finance Corporation with trades of over 4.00 million shares. It was followed by Yes Bank (3.48 million), I T C (2.71 million) and Farmax India (2.25 million).
