Sensex ends 284 points higher; Nifty settles at 11,470-level

Indian equities ended higher on Friday snapping earlier losses. The broad based Nifty traded at a new life time high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 284.32 or 0.75% at 37,947.88 with 19 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 85.70 or 0.75% at 11,470.75 with 36 components registering rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were State Bank Of India (3.18%), Hindustan Unilever (2.63%), Tata Motors (2.47%), ITC (2.27%), and Tata Steel (2.20%).

On the other hand, Hero Motocorp (1.14%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.61%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.58%), Coal India (0.44%), Power Grid Corporation Of India (0.35%), and Bajaj Auto (0.23%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,448 advances against 977 declines.

Rites topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 661.86 million. It was followed by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (Rs. 584.91 million), Tata Steel (Rs. 413.12 million) and I T C (Rs. 379.57 million).

The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 16.30 million shares. It was followed by G M R Infrastructure (6.25 million), Housing Development and Infrastructure (6.22 million) and Vakrangee (3.02 million).
