Sensex ends 119 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,617-level

Indian equities ended higher on Thursday snapping earlier losses. Both Sensex and Nifty traded above 1-month high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 118.55 or 0.34% at 35,260.54 with 15 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 40.40 or 0.38% at 10,616.70 with 29 components posting rise.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (4.19%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (2.93%), Axis Bank (2.11%), Hero Motocorp (2.20%), Tata Motors (1.78%), and Maruti Suzuki India (1.50%).

On the other hand, NTPC (2.16%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.15%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.04%), Coal India (0.96%), and Tata Consultancy Services (0.80%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,015 advances against 1,321 declines.

Jet Airways (India) topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,833.20 million. It was followed by Motherson Sumi Systems (Rs. 1,184.80 million), Yes Bank (Rs. 1,172.13 million) and Maruti Suzuki India (Rs. 987.41 million).

The volume chart was led by Motherson Sumi Systems with trades of over 8.28 million shares. It was followed by Jet Airways (India) (5.71 million), Yes Bank (5.69 million) and PC Jeweller (5.63 million).
