Indian equities ended flat on Tuesday. At the close, the 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex ended flat with a decline of 26.87 points or 0.08% at 31,599.76 with 17 components registering drop. while the broad based NSE Nifty closed flat with a decline of 1.10 points or 0.01%, at 9,871.50 with 27 components posting drop.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Hindustan Unilever (2.31%), Asian Paints (2.28%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (2.10%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.33%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (1.06%).
On the other hand, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (4.32%), Tata Steel (2.19%), Axis Bank (1.82%), Hero Motocorp (1.39%), Coal India (1.30%), and ICICI Bank (1.14%) were the biggest gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was positive with 1,468 advances against 925 declines.
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 439.20 million. It was followed by Indiabulls Real Estate (Rs. 413.31 million), Reliance Capital (Rs. 409.43 million) and Tata Steel (Rs. 382.48 million).
The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 17.77 million shares. It was followed by IDFC (2.97 million), Unitech (2.94 million) and Farmax India (2.25 million).
