Sensex ends 190 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,549

Indian markets ended higher on Tuesday snapping earlier losses. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 190.29 or 0.54% at 35,150.01 with 19 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 60.70 or 0.58% at 10,549.15 with 35 components registering rise.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (5.75%), Asian Paints (4.03%), State Bank Of India (2.85%), Axis Bank (2.42%), Tata Power Company (2.00%), and ITC (1.84%).

On the other hand, Hero Motocorp (1.58%), Bharti Airtel (1.43%), HDFC Bank (1.36%), ICICI Bank (1.04%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (0.99%), and Maruti Suzuki India (0.55%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was positive with 1,460 advances against 706 declines.

Jet Airways (India) topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 282.36 million. It was followed by Tata Motors (Rs. 198.34 million), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (Rs. 157.21 million) and Power Finance Corporation (Rs. 126.11 million).

The volume chart was led by Suzlon Energy with trades of over 3.30 million shares. It was followed by Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.54 million), Power Finance Corporation (1.44 million) and Tata Motors (1.25 million).
