Sensex ends 152 points lower; Nifty settles below 9,600-level

Indian markets ended lower on Friday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 152.53 or 0.49% at 31,138.21 with 22 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 55.05 or 0.57% at 9,574.95 with 38 components registering drop.

Major losers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (2.14%), Hero Motocorp (1.95%), State Bank Of India (1.94%) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.56%).

On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.97%), Wipro (0.79%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.71%), ICICI Bank (0.71%), Cipla (0.39%), and Infosys (0.32%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 695 advances against 1,819 declines.

Tata Motors topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 37,264.48 million. It was followed by Indiabulls Real Estate (Rs. 1,294.85 million), Himatsingka Seide (Rs. 1,015.43 million) and IRB InvIT Fund (Rs. 643.66 million).

The volume chart was led by Tata Motors with trades of over 84.10 million shares. It was followed by Reliance Communications (9.07 million), IRB InvIT Fund (6.64 million) and Indiabulls Real Estate (6.33 million).
