Dabur India, the leading Indian consumer goods company India's leading consumer products maker Dabur India today joined hands with Sulabh International for a mega cleanliness and awareness drive in the slums of Delhi. Under this partnership, Dabur and Sulabh will seek to inculcate the habit of using toilets among the people and stop open defecation.
Dabur, with its flagship surface cleaner brand Sanifresh, will adopt six Sulabh public conveniences located at slums in Delhi (Sanjay Camp A & B Chanakyapuri, Vivekanand Camp Chanakyapuri, Anantram Dairy Near Moti Bagh, Sangli Mess Near Mandi House, and Purana Quila). Dabur will undertake the Cleaning & Maintenance, Sanitation & Hygiene Check at these public toilets, besides providing free usage of these toilets to all slum residents.
Sanifresh has been working towards providing clean and Germ-free public toilets across the country. Under its programme, Sanifresh 700se7kadam, the brand strives to bring an end to open defecation in rural areas.
"People living in slums do not have access to toilets and are more likely to indulge in open defecation, which not only poses a threat to their health but also to their dignity. Our survey revealed that even in these slums, almost 60% of the dwellers do not use these public conveniences and have been resorting to open defecation, which gives birth to a host of illnesses and diarrheal diseases. With this initiative, we intend to inculcate the habit of using toilets in the community. We are also giving the slum dwellers free access to these facilities by funding the usage charges as an additional move to stop open defecation," Dabur India Head of Marketing-Home Care, Ajay Motwani said.
S P. Singh, Chairman, Sulabh International Social Service Organization, said, "Sulabh International Social Service Organisation partnered with Dabur to promote the campaign of Swatch Bharat, launched in line with the Prime Minister’s drive to keep places clean and people healthy and productive. Sulabh has been working in the sanitation field more than 45 year to acquire national and international eminence and create toilet facilities, now being used by over 15 million people every day. Sulabh and Dabur have thus, set up a new paradigm of private and NGO working together to promote a common cause as critical as health and happiness of people."
