Commodity profile - Cotton Seed oil
Botanical Name
General characterstics
Cottonseed oil is a vegetable oil extracted from the seeds of the cotton plant after the cotton lint has been removed. It must be refined to remove gossypol, a naturally occurring toxin, which protects the cotton plant from insect damage.
Unrefined cottonseed oil is therefore sometimes used as a pesticide. In its natural unhydrogenated state, cottonseed oil, like all vegetable oils, has no cholesterol.

2. A Minimum Support Price is set by the Government of India to support cotton prices. Several government agencies like Cotton Corporation of India and Maharashtra State Co-operative Cotton Growers' Marketing Federation procures cotton at this price. While the price trend is initially set by the MSP, big industry cartels later determine price direction.
